Who we are

Diarist (diarist.live) is a live writing platform where writers compose in real time and readers can watch. We are operated as an independent product. Questions about this policy can be sent to hello@diarist.live.

What we collect

• Account data — email address, username, and display name when you create an account.
• Profile data — optional bio and avatar URL.
• Content — everything you write using Diarist, including drafts and published pieces.
• Activity — follows, likes, saves, and notifications associated with your account.
• Session data — authentication tokens stored in cookies to keep you signed in. These are strictly necessary for the service to function and are not used for advertising or tracking.

How we use it

• To operate and deliver the Diarist service.
• To send you email notifications when writers you follow go live (you can manage this in your notification settings).
• To send account-related transactional emails (confirmation, password reset).

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not share your data with third parties except as described below.

Third-party services

• Supabase— our database and authentication provider. Your data is stored on Supabase's EU or US infrastructure.
• Resend— our transactional email provider. Your email address is shared with Resend only for the purpose of delivering emails you've opted into.
• Vercel— our hosting provider. Requests to Diarist pass through Vercel's infrastructure.

Cookies

Diarist uses only strictly necessary cookies — specifically, session cookies that keep you authenticated. We do not use tracking, advertising, or analytics cookies. Because these cookies are required for the service to work, they do not require your consent under GDPR and ePrivacy regulations.

Your rights

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You can:

• Delete your account — go to Settings → Delete account. This permanently removes your profile, all your writing, and all associated data.
• Request a copy of your data — email hello@diarist.live.

Data retention

Your data is kept for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all your personal data is permanently deleted from our systems within 30 days.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by a prominent notice in the app. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
